Respect …

“Respect the authorities, whatever their level; they are God’s emissaries for keeping order.” 1 Peter 2:13

Glen Service PIcThe VA hospital in Phoenix is getting unwanted publicity for poor management of veterans seeking medical help. Two years ago, my husband Glen filled out paperwork to have his hearing evaluated. During the four years he served in the U.S. Navy, the noise level of the machines he worked, ate, and slept near exceeded the safe level to avoid nerve damage. We are still waiting.

Arizona Senator McCain’s office sent an e-mail to veterans asking for input. I returned the survey, and received another e-mail inviting me to send all my records and correspondence to his office. I sent a package off, and now, we wait again.

As a person of authority, I don’t agree with all of Senator McCain’s actions and proposals. However, I must admit I am impressed by his quick responses to the VA crisis. I believe he is a good man, who is doing his best, under the oath he took, to represent his constituents.

God, when we accept the authority to serve and keep order, help us first to seek your will. Amen.
