“Out at sea you saw GOD in action, saw his breathtaking ways with the ocean: With a word he called up the wind—an ocean storm, towering waves! You shot high in the sky, then the bottom dropped out; your hearts were stuck in your throats.” Psalm 107:31 (The Message Bible)
On a vacation in the Bahamas, my friend, Verla, looked me squarely in my eyes and said, “As long as I live, I’m never going on another cruise!” She had experienced the wild seas while on an a cruise that shook items off the shelves in the gift shop and had missed all the fun of a cruise. “But I said, this is only a mini-sub, it will be okay.” Looking at the smooth water in the harbor, she agreed to give it a try. The first half hour proved my point, but then the captain turned the sub into the open sea and waves flapped again the long-slim sub. For the next hour, all but two of the fifty passengers on board stared into white paper bags–missing the scene from the glass-bottom boat.
Today’s Psalm reminds me that during the tough times in my life, it feels similar to that rocking little sub.
Dear Lord, thank you for tossing me a little white bag when I need it. Amen.
