“When Jesus died, he took sin down with him, but alive he brings God down to us.” Romans 6:10
If you asked a small child, “Where is God?” he or she might point to the sky–the heavens. As we grow in our faith, God grows nearer and nearer to our body, mind, and soul. He’s like a hot day in Iowa when the humidity is 99%–he is so present you can almost feel him.
When I was around seven or eight years old, I used to worry about everything. Especially my health. We lived on a farm and my parents warned us kids about getting scratched by a nail and about getting “lock jaw.” I had no idea what that meant, but I could imagine not being able to open my mouth to eat or talk. I kept a bottle of rubbing alcohol by my bed, and every night before going to sleep, I’d search my body for open sores and bug bites and douce myself in the stinging liquid. I had more faith in rubbing alcohol than I did God.
Thank you, Lord, for hovering around me and protecting me from myself. Amen.
