“The answer, thank God, is that Jesus Christ can and does. He acted to set things right in this life of contradictions where I want to serve God with all my heart and mind, but am pulled by the influence of sin to do something totally different.” Romans 7:25
Saul proudly persecuted Christians. He stood by and congratulated mob ringleaders who stoned to death a man named Stephen (a man chosen by the disciples to assist them in caring for the poor in Jerusalem).
Gru, the main character in the animated movie, “Despicable Me” delighted in being cunning, mean, and totally despicable!
Both of them had a second chance to become decent human beings. Saul’s life changed on a walk to Damascus when a bright light blinded him. Three days later, God sent Ananias (another disciple) to Saul and placed his hands on Saul. Scales fell from Saul’s eyes as the Holy Spirit entered him. After that incident, he became known as Apostle Paul.
Gru deguised himself as a respectable dentist and adopted three little orphans girls to help him infiltrate enemy Vector’s base (his chief rival in trying to capture the moon). Eventually the girls worked their way into Gru’s heart, and he became a loving father.
I’m glad God didn’t videotape me through some of my sorry moments in life and produce a blockbuster movie, “Despiscable Linda.”
Dear God of mercy and grace, thank you for removing the blinders from my eyes. Amen.
