“The very moment you separate body and spirit, you end up with a corpse.” James 2:26
It’s Halloween time–get the bags of candy! We live in an all-senior neighborhood, and I miss seeing the kids dressed in a character they love or trying to scare someone as a ghost or skeleton.
I feel as if I am a Halloween character every day of the year. Even though I put on a nice dress or pair of pants and a top to go to work or church, beneath the frock is a skeleton of fear, doubt, unrealistic expectations, ideals, and a ghost of the spirit of Linda begging to come out.
James says we can’t separate body and spirit. I talk about this when doing retreats for those who work in the church office. If we let ourselves get physically or emotionally broken down, our spirit becomes a corpse that perhaps God won’t even recognize.
Lord, remind us to take care of our bodies and spirits to serve you and others to your glory. Amen.
