Standing guard…

“They went out and secured the tomb, sealing the stone and posting guards.” Matthew 28:66

imageThe chief priests and Pharisees were the first doubters in the passion story and resurrection of Jesus. Jesus had announced “after three days I will be raised.” They wanted to make sure this was not a prank–that the disciples would sneak into the grave and steal the body.

Frequently, we get offers in the mail to receive a free cruise, including airfare. Having been around the block a few times with such offers, we now assume there is more to the offer than a free cruise and airfare and toss the invitation into the recycling bin. Later, I doubt my decision, Perhaps this one was a legitimate offer, and I just missed the opportunity to take my first cruise!

The guards doubted Jesus was the Messiah. No amount of guards could keep Jesus from defying death!

Lord, Jesus, let us trust what you say and not defy it Amen.
