Start fresh each day . . .

John the Baptist said, “The real action comes next: The star in this drama, to whom I’m a mere stagehand, will change our life.” Mark 1:7

FreshIn today’s scripture, the stage is being set for Christmas. John the Baptist was part of the original drama in which two-thousand years later we continue to observe during the four weeks of Advent. As the people from Judea and Jerusalem confessed their sins, John baptized them—with the disclaimer, he was only giving them a chance to turn their life around. Jesus would be the one to baptize with the Holy Spirit and change them “from the inside out.”

There isn’t a day that goes by we don’t need to be reminded of our own baptism. Taking a shower first thing in the morning is a good place to start: Let the refreshing water penetrate your skin, cleansing the whole body. As you dry off, ask God to wipe away sin of the heart and mind.

Dear Lord, thank you for the life-cleansing showers of mercy and forgiveness you freely offer. Amen.
