Stay out of the ditch…

“Didn’t he set us on the road to life? Didn’t he keep us out of the ditch?” Psalm 66:9

imageI dedicate this blog to my son Michael. He learned to drive while we lived in the country and proudly drove an old VW Rabbit back and forth to school and to his job. When he’s head out the door, I’d always say, “Drive safely,” and because I had been a teen drive and remembered a few crazy things I did, I’d silently pray, “Lord watch over Michael.”

Now for the sad story. Halfway home from school, on the only curve on the road, Michael had been fiddling with a cassette tape and the Rabbit hopped into the ditch and ended belly up in a shallow ditch. He came out unharmed, but the old Rabbit died and ended up in the local junkyard.

The Psalm today reminds us that God keeps us out of the ditch. However, we have to pay attention to the road in which we’re traveling.

Thank you, Lord, for protecting us when we fail to take care of ourselves. Amen.
