Stinks to High Heaven — Daily Meditation Moment

November 29

“Her sins stink to high Heaven. God has remembered every evil she’s done. Give her back what she’s given. ” Revelations 18:5 (The Message Bible)

All my life I’ve heard the phrase “That stinks to high heaven,” but I never associated it with the Bible until Eugene Peterson used it in his translation of Revelations 18:5. Think of the sin and corruption in our world. If we stacked it up on barges waiting alongside the shore of New Jersey, how close to heaven is it getting? Think of your own deeds and deceptions? Are they piling high day by day?

God remembers everything about how we live. There is no deception that will go unpunished. If a foul garlic-like odor is coming out of the pores of your skin, or the smell of garbage is permeating throughout your house, it may be time for a cleansing shower, to set out the trash, and to buy a good pair of knee pads and fumigate the body and soul with prayers for forgiveness. While you are down on your knees, give God praise for his never-ending supply of grace and for the freshness of a new day.

Dear Lord, may the fragrance of my life reflect your will for me. Amen.
