“People ruin their lives by their own stupidity, so why does God always get blamed?” Proverbs 19:3
On March 31, CBS posted this ad: THE LATE SHOW with DAVID LETTERMAN is looking for contestants for upcoming Stupid Pet and Human Trick segments. I have done a few stupid things in my life, but none I would reveal to the whole world for a few laughs.
When people intentionally do stupid things it makes me wonder if when they heard God was passing out brains, they thought he said trains and let it pass by. (Old joke.) What would make supposedly happily married man or woman subscribe using a credit card to a website to find someone to have an extra-marital affair.
Ashley Madison is a name most people never heard of until their website was hacked and millions of people were exposed for trying to make a match for an affair. A young man and father involved in a reality TV celebrity confessed he had used the service and called himself a “hypocrite” because he is part of a conservative religious family. Another guy said, “I don’t mind being exposed—at least I experienced some excitement in my life.” Crazy. His next excitement could be in divorce court.
I don’t hear or read about people blaming God for their stupidity. Nor is there a lot of shame, embarrassment, regret, or pleading for forgiveness. That is also stupid.
Dear Lord, lead us away from the path toward stupidity. Amen.
