“Surprise us with love at daybreak; then we’ll skip and dance all the day long.” Psalm 90:14 (The Message Bible)
Guideposts Magazine published my first inspirational article in the August 2007 edition. After approving the editorial changes, I was taken aback by the title they’d given the article: “Surprised by Love.” It didn’t seem to fit. I don’t remember being surprised that I loved my husband of forty years. Yet, the article was about our marriage recovery, with the working title, “It’s Not Over Until the Toad Croaks.” The surprise was that a little plastic toad, prayer, and a lot of marriage therapy helped us get that “lovin’ feeling” reignited and that we didn’t end up in divorce court.
The image of a God that loves me at daybreak and continues to love me throughout the day and night is no surprise to me. I’ve held firm to the power of forgiveness that is available to me by getting down on my proverbial knees and asking God! And, should I seek forgiveness as I go to sleep at night, I can leap (or crawl) out of bed in the morning with a clean slate and skip and dance into the pathway of all the challenges I will face during the day.
Thank you, God, for gracing me with that “lovin’ feeling” every day. Amen.
