Tethered in Prayer — Daily Meditation Moment

“God’s Spirit is right alongside helping us along. If we don’t know how or what to pray, it doesn’t matter. He does our praying in and for us, making prayer out of our wordless sighs, our aching groans.” Romans 8:26,27 (The Message Bible)

Our daughter, Susan, was seven weeks old when I awoke early one morning with a pain across my upper back area and labored when trying to breathe. Glen called a neighbor to take care of the kids and his mother, who lived five hours away, to come and help him with the baby. She arrived seven hours later.

The next few hours were consumed with ambulance rides, tests, and getting settled into a bed in the ICU. During the night, I had thrown blood clots into my lungs, and I spent the next two weeks in bed tethered to an IV of Heparin to dissolve the clots.

I don’t remember much about those two weeks or whether or not I prayed. I knew many people were praying for me, which gave me hope. Now, as I read the words in Romans 8, I am reminded how God heard my groans and sighs, and sent the Holy Spirit to convert them into powerful prayers.

Dear Lord, I am grateful for your army of angels and the Holy Spirit that take over for me when I can’t pray for myself. Amen.
