“He’ll come down from heaven and the dead in Christ will rise…then there will be one huge family reunion with the Master.” 1 Thessalonians 4:17-18 (The Message Bible)
In Thessalonians 4 Paul is clearing up the matter of Jesus coming back to earth to get the rest of us—the dead first and then those still living, who will rise up on a cloud to heaven with Jesus. This sounds like a script for a science fiction movie, but Jesus said he would come. No one knows the time or place.
I sometimes wonder if Jesus will come back as a baby again…or maybe the young man in the temple who will return to minister to the teenagers first…or will he come as said in verse 16: The Master himself will give the command. Archangel thunder! God’s trumpet blast!” (vs. 16)
This scripture reassures me that at the end of my life cycle on earth, Jesus promises that I’ll be invited to a family reunion with the Master. That gives me hope for the future (and a chance to see my dad, grandma and others I love again).
Dear Lord, I’m in no hurry for the big family reunion with you, but when my invitation arrives, I’ll be ready to come. Amen.
