“Meanwhile, the eleven disciples were on their way to Galilee, headed for the mountain Jesus had set for their reunion.” Matthew 28:16
I have had reunion on my mind for the past few months. There is something special about a 50th reunion, except for the fact that I have been out of high school for half a century and don’t feel much older than when I graduated.
I have spent a considerable amount of time planning my wardrobe for the reunion weekend–to try to impress upon my classmates that I really haven’t changed much since the last reunion I attended ten years ago.
The reunion Jesus planned was for his disciples–the one he had told the two Marys to arrange after his resurrection. Can you imagine the anxiety the disciples must have experienced anticipating seeing Jesus again? He had been dead. Now alive and only a few days since they had seen one another. Then imagine the joy and lively conversation they shared as they gathered together–just as I imagine for my reunion with good friends from those wonderful high school days.
Lord, let all our reunions be joyful and pleasing to God. Amen.
