“Tremble, Earth! You’re in the Lord’s presence!” Psalm 114:7
Every now and then we hear of an earthquake that causes the Earth to tremble. The most recent quake of significance happened in California, which occurred during a network news hours. The TV cameras continued to roll and filmed the newscasters stuck at their desks. Their professionalism won out, as they didn’t panic–not too much anyway.
Where does one go when the Earth begins to tremble? I’ve heard the safest place is to go outside and stand on the surface of the Earth, away from obstacles that might fall and crush you. Perhaps there are earthquake drills, such as tornado warning drills we experienced in the Midwest as a kid, to make sure a whole family or workers know where to go in the event of an earthquake.
God’s people continue to create chaos on Earth. To name a few: invasions into neighboring countries, assaulting religious groups within their own communities, and keeping medicine, food, and clean water from children starving in third-world countries. The hearts of these people quake in response. Where do they go for protection?
Lord, be our steady and stable foundation during times when our world trembles. Amen.
