The family tree …

Your family and your kingdom are permanently secured. I’m keeping my eye on them! 2 Samuel 7:16

imageThese were words were told to David by Nathan from a messenger of God. David became the king, and his lineage is linked to Jesus. We are linked to Jesus through our baptism—water that gave us security of having a permanent place in that family tree.

We sometimes are more concerned about where we live, our jobs, our possessions, but the Christmas story reminds us that we, too, come from humble beginnings and all we need is someone to keep an eye on us—God. The promise we live with today is of eternal life through Jesus. The promise continues from generation to generation, should we accept it and pass it on.

God, help me keep my eyes on the empty manger during Advent and long for the birth of Jesus. Amen.
