“Friends, don’t get me wrong: By no means do I count myself an expert in all of this, but I’ve got my eye on the goal, where God is beckoning us onward—to Jesus. I’m off and running, and I’m not turning back.” Philippians 3:13,14
Our current president style for presiding over the nation is telling it like he sees it, and people are wondering if this will become the new normal. Yesterday, Senator Jeff Flake of Arizona, announced his retirement from the Senate at the end of 2018. He can no longer support a style of politics that goes against his moral. Some people say he quit because he can’t win again. They may be true, because when one stands up for their convictions, others want to knock them down to stay with the new normal.
When I think about what is the new normal in my life, I must say that since my husband died, I am not living the way I had for fifty years. I’ve moved forward and am in a committed relationship. Some people say, “It is too soon.” Others say, “We want you to be happy.” Some have decided they can’t handle my new normal and have ignored me entirely. There is no “normal” pattern for finding peace and love again.
God beckons us onward. He is the same today as he was yesterday and wants us to keep running for the prize. Beyond that, nothing is normal.
Lord, help me keep a strong sense of normalcy in my relationship with you. Amen.
