[Jesus said] “This child isn’t dead; she’s sleeping…. ‘Little girl, get up.’ At that, she was up and walking around! This girl was twelve years of age.” Mark 5:40-42 (The Message Bible)
Twelve—that’s how old my granddaughter is. That makes it easy for me to understand the pain the leader’s family felt as their gravely ill daughter began to slip away from them. In the background, there must have been conversation about Jesus, the healer, as someone said, “Your daughter is dead. Why bother the Teacher any more?” (vs. 35)
Jesus overhead the conversation and told the leader not to listen to the people. “Just trust me.” (vs. 36)
This story ended like in the Snow White fairy tale, but instead of being kissed by Prince Charming, Jesus—the Prince of Peace—grabbed her hand and invited her to get up, and she walked, happily ever after!
Dear Lord, help us put our trust you always, especially when things seem impossible. Amen.
