Think big …

“Post this at all the intersections, dear friends: Lead with your ears, follow up with your tongue, and let anger straggle along in the rear. God’s righteousness doesn’t grow from human anger.” James 1:19

donaldtrump1It has been a week since the people of the U.S. spoke through their vote and elected Donald Trump as the president elect for this great nation. The people who wanted change won; those who voted for another candidate lost. It happens this way whenever there is an election. However, I can’t remember a time of such controversy and demonstrating after the results were revealed.

During the long and frustrating presidential campaign, politics became more of an issue of the heart instead of the mind. It would be a better world if people put their emotional energy into issues that could make a difference, such as world hunger, sex trafficking, homelessness, and wars, to name a few. James says in chapter 1, we should lead with our ears, to understand what we are hearing. I use to fact check before reposting anything. A lie spread only creates more chaos. Then he said we should follow up with the tongue—speak out against issues that are just plain wrong, and last, keep anger at bay—straggling along in the rear.

An election for president should not create anger. Disappointment, yes. It is what it is. Mr. Trump will be the president in January.

Dear Lord, give us insight as to what is really important in our lives. Amen.
