“Think Happy Thoughts” — Daily Meditation Moment

“…You’ll do best by filling your minds and meditating on things true, noble, reputable, authentic compelling, gracious—the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly…” Philippians 4:8image

Yesterday, I talked with a friend struggling with personal issues close to her heart. I shared with her my mother’s only advice many years ago when I whined to her about about my sagging marriage. She said, “Linda, think happy thoughts.” My reaction (without saying it out loud) was “How can I think happy thoughts—all I want is to get out of this marriage!”

After months of sessions with a good marriage therapist, our marriage was reconciled into an even better marriage. One day I thought of those three little words from my mother’s wisdom: Think happy thoughts. She was right. Tomorrow we will celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary.

Dear Lord, help us not to dwell on our deepest concerns so long that we forget about the good going on in lives. Amen.
