“No one can escape the weather—it’s there. And no one can escape from God.” Job 37:7 (The Message Bible)
I appreciate the advancement in weather forecasting, and at the same time, I hate it! The weather for today is predicted to be hot and humid. As I write, it’s already 80 degrees and headed to 93; with high humidity, it will feel like 105! As a desert dweller, 105 degrees is nothing—I don’t consider it hot until it reaches over 110! And, it is dry heat—sweat never has time to accumulate!
Dr Richard Carlson wrote a series of books on a great theory: “Don’t sweat the small stuff—and everything is small stuff.” The writer of Job 37 (Elihu) is using weather conditions to help Job understand the fact that he can’t control his messy life—only God can.
Okay, it’s going to be hot and humid today—the only thing I can do about it is to turn on the A/C and stay inside. Oh, I just remembered…Karen told me the A/C isn’t working!
Dear Lord, I am grateful that you control everything—it helps me to remember that I can’t fix everything by myself. Amen.
