Try something unique!

“I [Apostle Paul] need your help in carrying out this highly focused assignment God gave me, this priestly and gospel work of serving the spiritual needs…” Acts 15:16

Crossroads Bible Church outside Bedford, PA, has for its mission statement: To reach Bedford Country with the Gospel of Jesus Christ using every means possible. My friend Frank spent three years as a missionary in Germany. When he arrived to begin his service, he met with his supervisor and said, “I’m ready! What will I be doing?” To this the response was, more or less, “You figure it out.”

Frank’s love of working with children, and his imagination, gave him the idea of creating a marionette puppet ministry. When he took his plan to his supervisor, there was some doubt if it would be approved, because it was different than traditional missionary work.

In researching the history of marionettes, I learned during the middle ages, creative theatrical French artists created string puppets to present shows about Biblical events. With the Virgin Mary being a popular character, string puppet were called marionettes, which in French means little Mary.

As a marionettist, Frank created puppets and performed shows for children throughout areas of Germany telling Bible stories–Noah and the Ark, David and Goliath, and his favorite, “The Christmas Story,” featuring the still famous puppet, the Virgin Mary. He’s currently creating new staging and puppets to reach children anywhere God leads him.

Thank you, Lord, for unique ministries that help reach people with the Good News. Amen.
