[Peter said] “Turn and face God so he can wipe away your sins, pour out showers of blessing to refresh you…” Acts 3:17 (The Message Bible)
When we screw up, we turn against God. For God to forgive us first we must clean up our act and either get down on our knees or climb into God’s lap and ask to be forgiven.
During a period of delayed adolescence (age 59), I wondered away from my marriage and behaved poorly as a mother and as a wife. God shed as many tears as those I had offended. It took me a year to rinse the residue of my bad behavior from my heart and soul. I didn’t drop to my knees and pray for forgiveness, but I felt a strong sense of God’s arms wrapped tightly around me as I confessed the things he already knew about.
Perhaps God’s plan was for me to turn away from my old self (the one filled with doubt and fear) for a while to help me find clarity in who I was becoming, to grow my faith, and to start over in my marriage that had begun at the end of my first adolescent period!
Dear God, through all we’ve been through together, I give you thanks. Amen.
