Watching, preparing, rejoicing, and beholding …

Fond Memories Card“Pay attention! Are open your eyes! Are you blind? You’re my servant, and you’re not looking. You’re my messenger, and you’re not listening!”
Isaiah 42:18

How have you spent the days of Advent in preparation for Christmas? WATCHING, PREPARING, REJOICING, and BEHOLDING? If during this busy season you still have gifts to buy and wrap, cooking and cleaning to do, then perhaps you have spent more time  preparing spiritually for Christmas than ninety-five percent of the people in America that celebrate the holiday.

According to a 2010 Gallop poll, only fifty-one percent of Americans say the holiday is a strongly religious experience for them. What are the other people doing on Christmas Eve? Isaiah says, “Pay attention!” Don’t close your eyes to the best gift you’ll ever receive. It’s my prayer you will go to church and worship the birth of Jesus stress free—even if some tasks won’t be crossed off your to-do list.

Whether you are ready or not, the Christ child will be born. For these last few days, open your eyes and your hearts to the Holy Spirit and be overwhelmed through carols, candles, and good cheer expressed by all who surround you.

Lord, give us peace during the process of preparing for the birth of your Son. Amen.
