Wearing White — Daily Meditation Moment

“Your baptism in Christ was not just washing you up for a fresh start.” Galatians 3:26 (The Message Bible)

“You can dress him up, but you can’t take him out.” Funny, but so true. We put a lot of emphasis on clothing. The day after the Oscars or Emmys the news is full of which star looked the best…and the worst. I wonder what those dresses look like following the “after” parties–we might see some pretty ugly behavior in a  gorgeous gown.
Babies are often brought to the altar to be baptized wearing a white gown or outfit as a symbol of cleansing from original sin. To think that a baby is born into sin at conception–hard to believe as innocent and helpless as they are for months.
To continue the scripture from verse above, in verse 27 it says, “It also involved dressing you in an adult faith wardrobe…”  So what began with our baptism (at any age), we are to continue by scrubbing up and beginning fresh any time we fail to live as God’s child. Some of us have higher water bills that others!
Dear Lord, thank you for renewing my baptism each day. Amen.
