“…all these pioneers who blazed the way, all these veterans cheering us on? It means we’d better get on with it.” Hebrews 12:1
Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, David, Samuel, and the prophets are the “veterans” referred to in Hebrews. If you haven’t read the book of Hebrews recently, it is a good read written for what was considered “too religious Christians.”
Can we be too religious? This topic will be in the news a great deal in the next year and a half as presidential candidates come forward with their platforms. (I may be stepping into quicksand as I write this blog, but I have been there before, and with God’s strong arm of redemption, I’ll be pulled out if necessary.) It is my opinion that a presidential candidate (or any politician) should wear his or her religion instead of preach it. As a writers I was taught it is more powerful to the reader to “show, not tell” the message.
All the “veteran” forerunners to Jesus blazed a trail to help us understand our religion. However, it was Jesus who came to set an example as to how to run the race to reach enteral life.
Dear Lord, help us use our religious beliefs to make us a stronger candidate to serve others. Amen.
