What rocks are you pondering today?

“Ponder the rock from which you were cut.” Isaiah 51:2

Butterfly and rockIsaiah reminds us to go back and “ponder”, not to re-live our past. A Facebook acquaintance and Christian author frequently blogs about being sexually molested throughout her kindergarten year by teenage brothers who lived in her neighborhood. Her stories about painful memories and learning to forgive the boys are gut-wrenching. At the age of fifteen, she found Jesus. That very moment Mary says her life went from feeling unloved and hopeless to knowing she was no longer alone in her struggle to answer the question, “Why?”.

Sometimes I wish I could shout to the author, “Quit pondering the terrible things that happened to you as a child! You are a successful, talented adult!” But I have not walked in her little Mary Jane shoes and cannot be the judge and jury as to how long healing will take, if ever. I’m grateful she is walking the journey with her best friend who will never judge her or leave her to suffer alone.

Dear Lord, thank you for Mary’s story. May she and others trying to clear away the heavy rocks in their childhood find peace in the process. Amen.
