[Jesus said] “This is war, and there is no neutral ground. If you’re not on my side, you’re the enemy; if you’re not helping, you’re making things worse. Matthew 12:30
Recently, there has been more news of white policemen shooting and /or killing black people, mostly men. I’ve not lived in the climate of constant tension between races, so I have no idea why they can’t co-exist without being enemies. I wonder what, if any, generation will finally get it right–and stop the hatred. Under the skin everyone has the same organs. But the heart and mind chooses sides and brings out the worst in people.
In Jesus’ day, it was more like the conservatives vs. the liberals–the ones with progressive ideas. A person could perform miracles and make new rules about foods that were now okay to consume. And the big one–condemned to death because of being a threat to those who ruled the land. This is a lot for anyone to digest.
I’m progressive in my thinking. I don’t know how I became progressive as many of my family members are conservative. I could not live with myself if I pretended to be anything different. It is good when everyone can meet on neutral ground and have conversations about things that really matter, such as God is good and his mercy endures forever, regardless if we are progressive or conservative.
Help us, Dear Lord, to keep from making things worse by our beliefs and opinions. Amen.
