“With all this going for us, my dear, dear friends, stand your ground. And don’t hold back. Throw yourselves into the work of the Master, confident that nothing you do for him is a waste of time or effort.” 1 Corinthians 15:58 (The Message Bible)
When I take a break from writing, it is easy to fall into the pit of “Why am I writing? Who is going to read it? Will my new book sell?” Doubts turn self-confidence upside down, and I begin to wonder if there is purpose in what I do.
Paul reminds us in 1 Corinthians to throw ourselves into the work of the Master and encourages us to be strong in our purpose—whatever it may be.
Jesus didn’t go to the cross for me to forget my purpose in writing. I need to memorize the rest of the sentence of verse 15, “… confident that nothing you do for him is a waste of time or effort.” That means that if there is no other purpose for my writing than to glorify God, then that is enough to make it worth blogging Daily Meditation Moments and moving forward with my new book, “Preachin’ to the Pastor… and Anyone Else Who Will Listen.”
The message of Easter isn’t over…but unless I stay focused, it begins to fade away and life doesn’t look as bright as the flowers on the altar on Easter Sunday.
Dear Lord, help us to keep the message of Easter to give us purpose. Amen.
