“Real wisdom, God’s wisdom, begins with a holy life and is characterized by getting along with others.” James 3:17 (The Message Bible)
This morning I listened to a short You-Tube presentation by Bishop Michael Curry in North Carolina, who was speaking against Amendment One, a hot topic in the election today. In his opinion, if Amendment One passes, it will not only redefine “domestic unions,” but it will affect the children of such a union—visitation, custody rights, insurance, and more, and the quality of life.
I’m not writing about the issue itself, but how the bishop uses Matthew 25:36,40 to support his vote:
” I was hungry and you fed me,
I was thirsty and you gave me a drink,
I was homeless and you gave me a room,
I was shivering and you gave me clothes,
I was sick and you stopped to visit,
I was in prison and you came to me.
Whenever you did one of these things to someone overlooked or ignored, that was me—you did it to me.”
Jesus just wants us to get along with each other. When don’t work towards harmony in the world, we aren’t seeking and receiving God’s wisdom.
Lord, let harmony begin today—everywhere! Amen
