“I am Lady Wisdom, and I live next to Sanity;
Knowledge and Discretion live just down the street…
Good counsel and common sense are my characteristics;
I am both Insight and the Virtue to live it out.” Proverbs 8:12,14
I found it interesting that the words in Proverb that come from God through Solomon that refer to wisdom as “Lady Wisdom.” Now, before all my female friends get too excited, after some research, the use of the female gender to describe wisdom is only symbolic in nature. God has given this gift to both men and women.
Wisdom doesn’t come through education and degrees. One needs to observe nature, animals, and human beings to become wise to how everything works together in this world. It comes to us through praying specifically for a situation. In the New Testament, James wrote in Chapter 1, verse 5, “If any of you needs wisdom, you should ask God for it. He will give it to you. God gives freely to everyone and doesn’t find fault.” (NIRV)
We also gain wisdom when we hang around wise people. President Trump is currently making choices of people to advise him or serve on his cabinet. We must pray that he will seek wisdom as he picks candidates to recommend to the Senate for approval. And, we must pray that the men and women of the Senate will also seek wisdom in confirming the appointments.
Lord, guide us and help us to listen to you when we seek wisdom. Amen.
