Words…fire in my belly

“The words are fire in my belly, a burning in my bones. I’m worn out trying to hold it in. I can’t do it any longer!” Jeremiah 20:9

imageIn the case of Jeremiah, even though he knew he was setting himself up for more persecution, he continued to prophesy. Telling what God wanted him to share couldn’t be stopped.

Today, we have people prophesying, but it isn’t necessarily the good news. Each of us have something within us that we want to share. Maybe it’s good news about one of our children or grandchildren or a promotion we’ve received. But then there are times our belly is burning to repeat news that we’ve heard–GOSSIP.

My brother Gary’s favorite saying about gossip is, “Loose lips sink ships.” In Psalm 141:3 we read, “Post a guard at my mouth, God, set a watch at the door of my lips.” Good advice, even when sharing the Good News!

Lord, help us fuel the fire in our belly to share only the Good News. Amen.
