“You never saw him, yet you love him. You still don’t see him, yet you trust him–with laughter and singing.” 1 Peter 1:8
Peter assures new Christians that God has his eye on every person–no one is forgotten. It’s hard when you didn’t witness Jesus walk on earth, die on the cross, and see him resurrected from the grave to believe it could possibly happen.
I am a bit too easily convinced by what people tell me. One time I had a dent in my back bumper. A man driving a pickup stopped me and said, “I’m an auto repairman and can save you time and money.” After talking with him for a few minutes, I was convinced that his $300 quote sounded better than the $700 one I’d received from the dealer.
Long story short. The guy did shoddy work and covered it with a layer of wax to be removed the next day. Of course, the phone number he left “for future work” was bad.
I’ve learned, “If it sounds too good to be true, it is” — except for God’s grace, there’s no doubt there.
Lord, thank you for the gift of doubt when I need it. Amen.
